Paint by numbers from your photo
Create a custom paint by numbers template from your own picture. PatternPaws reduces the photo to the number of colors you choose, outlines every area and numbers it, with a matching color legend.

How to use the paint by numbers from your photo
- Upload your photo.
- Pick how many paint colors you want (10–16 is a good start).
- Choose the detail and smallest-area size; bigger areas are easier to paint.
- Download the numbered outline, the painted preview and a printable PDF with the legend.
Tips for better results
- Photos with good light and a simple background give cleaner areas.
- Use “Large” smallest area for kids or beginners.
- Mix paints to match the legend swatches; the hex codes help when buying paint.
FAQ
How does the paint by numbers generator work?
It groups similar colors with k-means clustering, smooths out speckles, merges tiny areas into their neighbors, then draws the outline and places each number in the widest part of its area.
Can I print it on canvas?
Print the outline on paper and trace it onto canvas with a light pad or window, or use a print shop that prints on canvas.
Why do some thin areas have no number?
Areas too narrow to fit a readable number are left blank. Paint them the same as the neighboring area they belong to.
